The Irony

It just hit me. This blog is all about leaving the jewish community. And yet, through this blog I've come to read and get involved with commenting on other blogs. As a result I've once again (and this time kind of inadvertently) become involved with another jewish community. The jewish skeptic community.

Now if that's not irony, I don't know what is.

(don't worry, i'm not going anywhere)

  1. Judaism is an enchanted forest from which there is no escape unless a prince charming steals you away to a colonaded palace where the reed pipes play.

  2. There are a lot of skeptics out there who have little or no interest in Judaism. Unfortunately there are also a great deal of yeshiva guys who want nothing else then to spend their lives sitting in a yeshiva and warming the benches...Avi

Anyway, as I was saying, I can't think of a better, more accurate metaphor for religion than the mob ( as illustrated so perfectly in first godfather movie)

  6. Very interesting blog. I enjoy the insight into your thought processes as you have evolved away from Judaism. If it wouldn't be too personal, I'd be interested in your insights into your graduate school experience as well (I may have missed it, but I can't even tell what generic subject you study). I've always been conservative, though I was a member of NCSY (long ago) and had a brief shomer shabbos fling in college.

Since I am also presumptuous, I will suggest that you have to live your life, leavened with kindness. So if that means you can't be orthodox, or even reform, and if you've fallen in love with the boyfriend, it is your life. I'm sure you recognize that your parents (like all of us) have their own limitations, and you must work within those constraints on that relationship. Good luck.
